You’ll know it when you see it. The zeal and relentless madness of a person that’s lost their mind being in the presence or their favorite celebrity. It can happen anywhere, at any time and to anyone. Whether it’s on a social media platform or in real life. Worst of all, it’s contagious. #TrueStory You’re probably saying “Bah…please, like I would ever act like that”. Well I’ve got news for you. Under the right circumstances it can happen to anyone and I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time if it hasn’t happened to you already.
Yes, it’s all fun and games but when you stop to think about it and try to put yourself in the shoes of the various celebrities of this world. Then you have to be honest. People need to give the celebrities the credit they deserve because I’m not sure a lot of people would have the patience or the self-control to endure. It must be so annoying day in and day out to have people forget, that you are in fact, a normal person who constantly has to be socially aware and careful about how you live your life. On top of this, being the object of affection 24/7, being stalked and having thousands of people literally throw themselves at you pleading for a reply, a hello or an acknowledgement of existence.
While this sounds glamorous, it must be so mentally draining, repetitive, stressful and annoying to experience the “over the top” attitude of attention seeking fans while still trying to show them you are grateful for the loyalty. I guess that’s where the acting really pays off. Imagine a swarm of people irritating the crap out of you every time you made a public appearance outside of your home followed by the droning sounds of “I LOVE YOU”, “ACKNOWLEDGE ME” and “I’M YOUR FAVORITE FAN” echoing in chorus. That’s right, it doesn’t sound so pleasant after all and what do the celebrities do? They suck it up and keep on smiling.
It’s important to consider this and not feel burnt by the fact that you as a fan may not have been noticed. These people have millions of fans, social media commitments up the wazoo and their own priorities to be concerned about. The chance that you may get a response is unlikely and that’s just something you need to accept. These people are human beings like us who sleep, sh!t, cry and laugh just like everyone else. Yes being in the spotlight means that you need to be able to deal with the attention that follows but fans need to be considerate and not take it too far. From what I’ve seen, this is a line that get’s crossed daily and I really do think it’s sad that people cannot control themselves or at least attempt to be aware of their social delinquency and try to course correct their behavior.
The reason I’m bringing this up is because I was one of those impervious and strong-willed individuals who refused to be part of the cattle that went about actively seeking the attention of celebrities. Unfortunately, on this occasion, my judgement lapsed but I can proudly say that I became aware of what I was doing and adjusted. I apologized out of my own accord using my previous tweet to the celebrity and told him that I would rant about myself on my own blog for exactly what I didn’t want to be “a fanatical fan”.
To which I received a reply. “Consider yourself replied to my friend, now rant away”. So here we go Grant Bowler. As promised…the rant about myself…BTW #Defiance Rocks!
